Things are about to change for the better!!!
I was invited by Executive Officer Nick Christensen of the Larimer County

Sheriff’s office to meet with Sheriff Justin Smith regarding how the Sheriff’s department can reach out to the cycling community in a positive manner. I invited Jeff Morrell from Bike Fort Collins to attend the meeting.
The Sheriff wants to start a cycling club for the Sheriff’s department so that deputies can be more visible to the cycling community. There may be a component of the Sheriff’s Cycling club that will participate in some local races. We discussed educating cyclists and drivers alike about the being respectful of each other. The Sheriff agreed to be part of Bike Fort Collins campaign of “You Know Me” which highlights members of the community in advertising to show that cyclists are your neighbor, doctor, teacher, and friend.

Their literally is a “new Sheriff” in town and Sheriff Smith is excited about changing perceptions and actions from previous administrations. Sheriff Smith and his wife are both avid cyclists and while not siding with motorists or cyclists, he wants to be a Sheriff for the community and be protective of all people and uses of our County Roads. –
